He was always one of the top 3 agents in an office of 35-40 agents, winning multiple Quota Buster awards each year. He turned down several Coldwell Banker overtures to enter their corporate management program, and in 1987, Ken moved to Remax, becoming the first Remax broker in Long Beach. That year, he also became the youngest Remax franchise owner in California. As part of that process, Ken negotiated the lease of apprx. 3600sqft of Class B office space, managing the complete buildout of private, semi-private, and common office space required to operate a brokerage environment. He recruited agents, managed staff, and supervised every aspect of the company operation.
In 1992, Ken elected to start an independent brokerage, Kenneth Dean & Co., making it possible to provide a menu of real estate related services to bring the most efficient and specialized service possible for many different property types. "Independence, it certainly has given us the flexibility to provide our clients with a quality experience and has a direct effect on our customer's bottom line by providing efficient real estate services.
In 1994, MidCity Mortgage, an affiliated mortgage brokerage was founded to add more multi-level service. This dramatically reduced the total transaction cost to each client.
In 1999, Ken was asked to become the designated broker and general manager for the largest single office Remax franchise in Long Beach. Ken was humbled and grateful, yet as Ken says, " We don't want to be known by any other name but our own". He also wanted to continue providing the unique ability to service the needs of many different client/ property types.
We still are driven to provide the most flexible, most efficient, and professional service available and believe that comes with our independence". "After all, if it benefited our customers directly for us to be affiliated with a franchise company, then we would still be in that system. There is no benefit to our customers, and that is all that matters to us".
